SPD Discharge surge current from lightning strikes

     A Class I Surge Protective Device (Type 1 SPD) serves as the primary protection level in a lightning protection system. It is designed to safely discharge high-energy surge currents caused by direct or induced lightning strikes, preventing damage to downstream electrical equipment. Its core function is to intercept 10/350μs lightning impulse currents (simulating direct strike waveforms) and safely divert surges of several kiloamperes to the ground.

    Key Features:High Discharge Capacity: Capable of handling 10/350μs waveform lightning currents, with a typical nominal discharge current (Iimp) of 12.5kA to 50kA or higher.Voltage Protection Level (Up): Usually ≤4kV, ensuring downstream circuits are protected from overvoltage transients.Fast Response Time: Acts within nanoseconds (ns) to clamp surges before they reach sensitive equipment.Follow Current Interruption: Extinguishes power-frequency follow currents after a lightning strike to prevent sustained short circuits.

Product Application and Installation Location

         Suitable for Class D lightning protection, SJKS1 series surge protective devices comply with GB188021.1-2002. When used for motor equipotential bonding, they are installed at the junction of LPZ1, LPZ2 and LPZ3 zones. Typically installed in floor distribution boxes, computer centers, telecommunications rooms, elevator control rooms, variable frequency equipment control rooms, hospital operating rooms, intensive care units, and distribution boxes in places with electronic medical equipment. For scattered small villas, SPD should be installed in household distribution boxes.
